YEREVAN -- Armenian deputies representing the opposition Heritage faction in parliament filed a court complaint on February 21 against a decision by Yerevan authorities to construct trade kiosks in Mashtots Park.
Environmentalists and a number of civic groups have been protesting the construction for 12 days.
Construction work was interrupted on February 20 after some 100 young activists broke through a police cordon to reoccupy the park, before resuming overnight.
The activists argue that the construction of the kiosks is illegal, saying it would inflict further damage on Yerevan’s green areas.
