At Least 24 Killed In Two Vehicle Crashes In Pakistan

At least two dozen people were killed in two separate crashes in Pakistan involving passenger vehicles and a truck, police said on November 30.

At least 13 people died when a bus and a passenger van collided in the Narang Mandi area of the central province of Punjab early on November 30, police official Manzoor Hussain said.

Some 20 people were wounded and were being transferred to hospitals by ambulance, Hussain said. The cause of the accident could not be immediately established.

Also overnight, a passenger van overturned after a collision with a truck loaded with bricks in the southern province of Sindh, killing 11 people, police officer Akram Chandio said, adding that speeding was the most likely cause of the crash.

Bad infrastructure, poorly maintained vehicles, and substandard safety rules cause numerous accidents in Pakistan and thousands of deaths every year, according to official statistics.
