Belarus Pulls Out Of Iranian Oil Field

Belarus national oil company Belarusneft is canceling its participation in a joint project to develop Iran's Jofeir oil field, located in Iran's southwestern Khuzestan Province.

Belarus's general director for foreign trade and production, Alyaksander Sharaev, confirmed "Belarus is withdrawing from this project" but did not elaborate.

Iran's semi-official Mehr news agency reported there was a dispute between Belarusneft and the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC).

Reports said Belarusneft was contracted to produce some 3,500 barrels of oil per day but in fact was producing only 2,800 barrels.

The U.S. government imposed sanctions on Belarus in March for its participation in the Jofeir project.
