Bomb Blast Injures One At Pakistan Rally

ISLAMABAD -- At least one person has been injured by a bomb blast outside the site of a rally of the Awami National Party (ANP) in Pakistan's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province.

ANP President Asfandyar Wali Khan was due to address the rally in the town of Charsadda on December 10.

A correspondent for RFE/RL's Radio Mashaal says Wali Khan had not yet arrived when a remote-controlled bomb exploded not far from the area where the rally was to take place.

Police cordoned off the area soon after the blast.

No one has claimed responsibility.

The ANP, Pakistan's largest Pashtun party, leads the government in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and is an ally of President Asif Ali Zardari's Pakistan People's Party (PPP).
