Afghan authorities say five civilians were killed when a bomb exploded at a home in Zabul Province during the night.
Provincial council chief Atta Jan said on April 27 that a woman and two children were among the dead in the overnight blast in Shinkay district.
Meanwhile, in the northern Kunduz Province, fighting between Afghan police and the Taliban continued three days after the militant group said was the start of a spring offensive targeting the police, army, and intelligence officials.
Provincial governor Omer Safi said that there were been casualties on both sides but could not provide precise figures.
On April 26, the Taliban claimed responsibility for the assassination of Gulab Khan, the acting police chief of Uruzgan Province.
Afghan security forces are battling the Taliban largely alone following the withdrawal of most foreign combat troops last year.
