Police in southwestern Pakistan's Baluchistan say a bomb has exploded near a vehicle that was carrying employees of the state-owned Oil and Gas Development Corporation in the province.

Three employees of the firm were killed and five were wounded.

Police said the remote-controlled bomb was strapped to a motorcycle parked on the roadside near the town of Jaaferabad.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack. Besides fighting the Taliban and Al-Qaeda linked militants, Pakistan also is battling ethnic Baluch insurgents who are demanding immediate control of natural resources in the province and ultimately want independence from Islamabad.

Baluchistan provides one-third of Pakistan's natural gas, but only a handful of towns in the province are hooked up to the natural gas supply grid.
