Bosnia's war crimes court has sentenced a former Serb police officer to 20 years in prison for his role in the 1995 massacre of Muslims at Srebrenica.
The court on January 11 convicted and sentenced 41-year-old Bozidar Kuvelja for crimes against humanity but acquitted him of genocide.
Presiding Judge Jasmina Kosovic said the court could not conclude beyond reasonable doubt that Kuvelja knew the genocidal intent of the massacre.
But the court found that Kuvelja, an officer in a special Bosnian Serb Interior Ministry police brigade, helped round up Bosnian Muslim civilians, divided men from women, and transported detainees to dozens of execution sites -- including a warehouse in Kravica.
The court concluded that "members of Kuvelja's brigade fired from automatic weapons and threw hand grenades into the packed warehouse."
