Funeral Held For Slain Bulgarian Journalist Viktoria Marinova

Hundreds of relatives, friends, and colleagues attended the funeral of slain Bulgarian television journalist Viktoria Marinova on October 12 in her native town of Ruse. Her brutal rape and murder on October 6 shocked Bulgaria and triggered debates over freedom of the press. A Bulgarian man was arrested in Germany over the killing. German authorities said the man admitted striking Marinova in a park but, according to prosecutors, he said he "did not want to kill the victim and denied raping her."
