MONDAY, January 17:

Armenia: Armenian President Serzh Sarkisian visits Cyprus and Greece (to January 18).

Azerbaijan/Latvia: Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev visits Riga (to January 18).

World: World Future Energy Summit opens in Abu Dhabi (to January 20).


TUESDAY, January 18:

Armenia: Council of Europe Human Rights Commissioner Thomas Hammarberg visits Armenia (to January 21).

Georgia/Azerbaijan: Georgian Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze pays official visit to Baku.

Russia: Russian President Dmitry Medvedev makes working visits to Jordan and the Palestinian Authority (to January 19).

Russia/Chile: Russia and Chile introduce visa-free travel regime.

Ukraine/Japan: Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych pays an official working visit to Japan (to January 20).


WEDNESDAY, January 19:

Russia: Anti-fascist demonstration to be held in Moscow to mark the second anniversary of the murders of lawyer Stanislav Markelov and journalist Anastasia Baburova.


THURSDAY, January 20:

Azerbaijan: Anniversary of Black January events of 1990, in which Soviet troops opened fire on demonstrators in Baku.

Iran/Russia: Iran’s permanent envoy to the IAEA Ali Asghar Soltanieh is scheduled to travel to Moscow (to January 21).


FRIDAY, January 21:

Afghanistan/Russia: Afghan President Hamid Karzai visits Moscow at the invitation of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.

Iran: Nuclear talks between the Iranian government and world powers (Britain, China, France, Russia, the United States, and Germany) to resume in Istanbul (to January 22).

Iraq/U.K.: Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair to appear before Iraq war inquiry in London.

Russia/U.S.: Pretrial hearings in the Viktor Bout case to be held in New York.


SATURDAY, January 22:

Georgia/Armenia: Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili and Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze visit Yerevan (to January 23).

Ukraine: Ukrainian Unity Day.

World: The fifth annual Global Competitiveness Forum, a meeting of business leaders, politicians, and intellectuals, opens in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (to January 25).
