World: The Group of Twenty (G20) Summit opens in Cannes (to November 4).

Russia: Russia marks its National Unity Day. Russia's nationalists plan to hold a Russian March rally in Moscow.
World: The hajj, or annual Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca, Saudi Arabia, begins.
