MONDAY, December 19:

Czech Republic: The Czech government meets to declare a period of official mourning after the death of Vaclav Havel, who led the 1989 Velvet Revolution that peacefully toppled communism in the former Czechoslovakia.

Georgia: The constituent congress of the party Free Georgia is held in Tbilisi.

Russia: Moscow hosts the Eurasian Economic Community (EurAsEc) council meeting.

Ukraine/EU: The 15th EU-Ukraine summit to take place in Kyiv.

Ukraine/Czech Republic: Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov is scheduled to visit Prague.

Saudi Arabia/Iran: Gulf Cooperation Council Summit takes place in Riyadh (to December 23).


TUESDAY, December 20:

Egypt/Russia: Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr to visit Moscow (to December 22).

Russia/CIS: Presidents of CIS member states hold an informal summit in Moscow marking the 20th anniversary of the CIS.

Russia/CSTO: Moscow hosts a meeting of the CSTO Collective Security Council. The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) features Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.

Ukraine: A court in Kyiv considers an appeal by jailed former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko in her abuse-of-office case.

UN: International Human Solidarity Day.

World: Medicines Sans Frontiers marks its 40th anniversary.


WEDNESDAY, December 21:

Kazakhstan: Russian Soyuz spacecraft is scheduled to launch from Baikonur Cosmodrome for a trip to the International Space Station (ISS).

Russia: The first session of Russia's newly-elected parliament to be held in Moscow.

Ukraine: Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych holds Q&A session with representatives of mass media and public.


THURSDAY, December 22:

France/Armenia/Turkey: French National Assembly to discuss a bill criminalizing denial of the Armenian genocide.

Iraq/Azerbaijan: Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari to visit Baku (to December 23).

Russia: Russian President Dmitry Medvedev to deliver his annual address to the nation.


FRIDAY, December 23:

Armenia/Iran: Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinejad visits Yerevan.

Belarus: Belarusian President Alyaksandr Lukashenka holds a press conference on the results of the outgoing year in Minsk.

Czech Republic: A state funeral to be held for Vaclav Havel.
Turkmenistan/Russia: Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov makes a working visit to Moscow.


SATURDAY: December 24:

Egypt/Iraq: The 87th Ministerial Council of the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC) convenes in Cairo.

Iran: Registration of candidates for the ninth parliamentary elections begins.

Russia: Protests against alleged election fraud scheduled in Moscow and other cities.


SUNDAY, December 25:

Moldova: The second round of voting in the presidential poll in Moldova's breakaway Transdniester region to take place.
