MONDAY, August 27:

IAEA: Extraordinary meeting on nuclear safety begins in Vienna (to August 31).

Iran/NAM: Tehran hosts the 16th Summit of heads of state or government of the Non-Aligned Movement (to August 31).

Kazakhstan: Speakers of Kazakh, Russian, and Belarusian parliaments meet in Astana to discuss the creation of a Eurasian parliament.

Kyrgyzstan: Bishkek hosts the International conference of ombudsmen of the world (to August 30).

Moldova: Independence Day.

Russia: World forum of Tatar youth opens in Kazan (to August 31).

Ukraine: Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych makes a traditional pilgrimage to Mount Athos in Greece.


TUESDAY, August 28:

Ukraine/ECHR: The European Court of Human Rights holds a public hearing in the case of Tymoshenko v. Ukraine, concerning complaints related to the detention of the former Ukrainian prime minister.

Czech Republic: Czech ambassadors gather at an annual meeting in Prague (to August 31).

Georgia: Pardoned convicts to be released on the Virgin Mary Day.


WEDNESDAY, August 29:

EU: Nicosia hosts an informal meeting of ministers and state secretaries for European Affairs (to August 31).

Iran: UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon attends the summit of the Nonaligned Movement in Tehran.

U.S./Iran: The Washington Institute for Near East Policy hosts a discussion titled "Inside Iran's Nuclear Program" in Washington.

Ukraine/IMF: An International Monetary Fund (IMF) mission visits Kyiv to discuss the country's 2013 budget, energy-sector reform, and social programs (to September 5).
