MONDAY, April 25:

Georgia/Azerbaijan: Georgian Minister of Economic Development Vera Kobalia visits Baku.

Russia/Georgia: Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov visits Georgian breakaway regions of South Ossetia and Abkhazia (to April 27).

Russia/Ukraine: Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia visits Ukraine (to April 27).

World: World Malaria Day.


TUESDAY, April 26:

Belarus: Belarusian opposition leader Zmitser Bandarenka to stand trial in Minsk.

Kazakhstan: Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani is scheduled to visit Kazakhstan (to April 27).

Russia: Tatarstan marks 125th birthday of Tatar poet Gabdulla Tukay and Tatar Language Day.

Russia: Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin visits Denmark and Sweden (to April 27).

Serbia: Serbian President Boris Tadic hosts Turkish President Abdullah Gul and the Members of the Bosnian Presidency in Karadjordjevo.

Ukraine: 25th Anniversary of the Chornobyl nuclear disaster.

Ukraine: Ukrainian, Russian, and Belarusian presidents are expected to meet in Chornobyl, Ukraine.

World: World Intellectual Property Day.


WEDNESDAY, April 27:

Azerbaijan: A conference on cooperation between Azerbaijan and the U.S. to be held in Baku.

Belarus: Trial of opposition presidential candidate Andrey Sannikau and other opposition figures of Belarus to begin in Minsk.

Iraq: Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki is scheduled to visit South Korea (to April 28).

Kazakhstan: Second Plenary Session of Parliament Assembly of Turkic speaking countries to be held in Astana (to April 29).


THURSDAY, April 28:

Armenia: Armenian opposition is scheduled to hold a protest rally in Yerevan.

Azerbaijan: Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari visits Baku. (NOTE: The visit has reportedly been postponed).

Germany: Munich hosts an international conference in honor of the first Radio Free Europe broadcast ("Voice of Free Czechoslovakia") from Munich on May 1, 1951.

Moldova/Romania: Moldovan parliament speaker and acting President Marian Lupu visits Bucharest (to April 29).

Ukraine/Azerbaijan: Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych visits Baku (to April 29).

World: World Day for Safety and Health at Work.


SUNDAY, May 1:

World: 60th Anniversary of the first Radio Free Europe program broadcast from Munich.
