14 Dead In Chinese Mosque Stampede

Fourteen people have been reported killed and 10 injured in a stampede at a mosque in China's northwest Ningxia region.

Four of the injured were in critical condition.

State media said the panicked crush happened on the afternoon of January 5 in the town of Xiji.

It was not clear why the panic erupted as traditional food was being handed out at an event to commemorate a late religious figure.

The region of Ningxia is home to the Chinese-speaking Hui minority, who are mostly Muslim.
