China's expected new leader has appeared in public for the first time in two weeks, ending speculation about his fate sparked by the cancellation of senior international meetings.

The official Xinhua news agency published photos of Vice President Xi Jinping.

Xi has been expected to succeed President Hu Jintao as party leader in China's first leadership change in 10 years.

Xi canceled a meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and at least two other foreign officials last week.
