China has opened the world's longest cross-sea bridge to traffic linking the eastern port city of Qingdao to an offshore island, Huangdao.
The Jiaozhou Bay bridge is 42 kilometers long and is supported by more than 5,000 pillars.
It took four years to build, and state media say the project cost over $1.5 billion.
It is some 4 kilometers longer than the previous record-holder, the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway in the U.S. state of Louisiana.
