Croatians Expected To Lean Left In National Voting

Croatians are voting in parliamentary elections that are widely expected to leave the left-leaning opposition in position to govern the country.

Opinion polls suggested the opposition bloc led by the Social Democrat's Zoran Milanovic could win.

Croatia, a popular tourist destination of 4.3 million people on the Adriatic, has seen its economy boom over the past decade, but its growth ground to a halt when the global crisis hit in 2009.

Unemployment stood at 17.4 percent in October and thousands of employees work without pay.

Croatia is set to join the European Union in 2013.
