At least two suspected militants and three security officers have been killed in a counterterrorism operation in Russia's volatile North Caucasus Republic of Daghestan.
Local law enforcement officials say that five police and security officers were wounded in the operation, which was conducted in Daghestan's western Khasavyurt district on January 15.
Investigators identified one of the dead as Marat Idrisov, whom they suspect of organizing a car bombing in the city of Pyatigorsk at the end of December that killed three people.
Security forces conducted several operations in the Khasavyurt area in the last weeks of 2013.
