At least eight people have reportedly been killed in a fire at a drug treatment center in Russia's Altai Kray.
Russia's Investigative Committee said a criminal investigation has already been launched into the cause of the April 27 fire at the drug rehabilitation center.
Head of the district administration Konstantin Tatarnikov said the building that housed the narcotics treatment center was privately-owned and therefore local authorities were not responsible for the state of the structure.
Tatarnikov said the Chisty List charitable organization that ran the center has a good reputation among authorities and residents of the village of Ozero Krasilovo where the centered was located.
At least six other people at the center were reportedly taken to hospital with unspecified injuries.
