Indonesia's National Disaster Mitigation Agency says 11 people have died in flood-related incidents in Jakarta and more than 18,000 people have been forced to leave their homes.

Spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said on January 18 that the deaths have occurred since January 15, when torrential rain began to inundate the city.

Police deployed at least 40 rubber boats on January 18 to help evacuate or bring supplies to people still trapped by the floodwaters.

Elsewhere, hundreds of soldiers have deployed to repair a collapsed canal dike that is letting floodwater pour into parts of the capital.
