NATO and Afghan officials report many Taliban fighters have been killed in fighting in Afghanistan's western Farah Province on March 30.
A NATO spokesman, unnamed, said an Afghan army patrol came under attack in the Gulistan district of Farah Province and called in support.
NATO warplanes reportedly responded, bombing Taliban positions.
"Numerous insurgents were killed," the NATO spokesman said.
Abdul Raoof Ahmadi, a police spokesman in western Afghanistan, confirmed the fighting and said 30 Taliban were killed and another 15 wounded.
Deputy Farah Province Governor Mohammed Yunus Rasouli said five Afghan army vehicles came under attack in Gulistan and three Afghan soldiers were killed. Rasouli said the battle was still in progress.
