Police General Killed In Deadly Cairo Blasts

A supporter of the Muslim Brotherhood and ousted Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi gesticulates amid tear gas released by riot police during clashes outside Cairo University late last month.
Two people, including a police general have been killed in the Egyptian capital in a series of blasts in an area outside Cairo University.

The first two bombs went off minutes apart on April 2, killing Brigadier General Tareq al-Margawy.

They were followed by a third blast some time later, which killed a third person.

At least five people were injured in the explosions.

The bombs appear to have targeted riot police deployed in the university area to prevent protests by supporters of ousted President Muhammad Morsi.

Since Morsi's ouster last July there have been frequent outbreaks of violence, usually involving clashes between police and members of Morsi's Muslim Brotherhood.
