Serbia, Kosovo Reach Deals On Energy, Telecoms

The prime ministers of Serbia and Kosovo have reached agreements covering telecommunications and energy issues.

The deals were confirmed during talks in Brussels late on September 8 between European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton, Kosovar Prime Minister Hasim Thaci, and Serbian Prime Minister Ivica Dacic.

Under the agreements, Kosovo will apply for a three-digit international dialing code, expected to be +383.

Serbia secured the right for Serbian mobile operators to continue to function in Kosovo.

Calls from fixed lines between Serbia and Kosovo will still be charged as local calls.

The sides also agreed that employees at the Valac power station in northern Kosovo will not have to sign labor contracts with ethnic Albanian authorities.

Serbia has reached a series of agreements with Kosovo, as part of Belgrade’s drive for EU membership.
