Coroner In Bizarre U.K. Spy Death Says Explanation May Never Be Found

A London coroner says an explanation may never be found for the death in 2010 of a British intelligence agent whose naked body was found locked inside a sports bag in the bathtub of his apartment in the English capital.

Fiona Wilcox said on May 2 that Gareth Williams, a 31-year-old code breaker for the MI6 foreign spy agency, was killed either by suffocation or poisoning in a "criminally meditated act," but that it was "unlikely" the circumstances of his death would ever be clarified, despite a 21-month police inquiry into the case.

Wilcox, who has presided over a seven-day inquiry into Williams' death, is expected to present a written narrative detailing the range of possibilities regarding his death rather than a summary conclusion of foul play.
