The Unknown Soldier memorial in Tbilisi saw only a handful of people, among them Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia, coming to pay their respects to victims of World War II on May 9. Traditionally a rallying event for war veterans and supporters of Georgia’s native former Soviet dictator, Josef Stalin, attendance was limited by the coronavirus lockdown, which prohibits gatherings of more than three people at a time, and bad weather.
