Germany Places Russian Terror Suspect In Pretrial Detention

A Russian citizen suspected of plotting to carry out an extremist attack in Germany has been placed in pretrial detention.

German prosecutors say a judge from the Federal Court of Justice on August 23 ordered the detention of the suspect, identified as Magomed-Ali C., pending his trial.

The 31-year-old was detained in Berlin on August 22.

Prosecutors say that in October 2016, Magomed-Ali C. stored a "significant quantity" of the explosive TATP at his apartment in order to carry out an attack in Germany.

Authorities said the arrest was linked to investigations in France against a man named as Clement Baur, who WAS arrested in Marseille in April 2017 on suspicion of planning an attack in Germany, as well as one in France with another man currently in detention.
