Gunmen Kill Iraq Army General Outside Baghdad

Iraqi officials have said gunmen shot dead an army general outside Baghdad, while two civilians died and six were wounded in separate attacks elsewhere in the country on August 27.

Iraqi border forces Brigadier General Abdul-Muhsen Khazal was gunned down by several armed men in the Sunni town of Taji, just north of the capital.

Reports quote medical staff as saying the general died of multiple gunshot wounds.

A roadside bomb apparently aimed for a police patrol killed one person and wounded another in the northern city of Mosul.

A bomb blast in the town of Haditha killed one civilian and injured at least three soldiers.

Violence has significantly decreased in Iraq recently, but attacks are still common across the country.
