Honduras Jail Fire Kills More Than 350

Officials in Honduras say a fire that swept through a prison has left 356 people dead or missing -- mainly inmates.

The fire broke out late February 14 at the jail in Comayagua, about 75 kilometers north of the capital, Tegucigalpa.

Government officials said some 475 inmates escaped, and more than 20 had been injured.

It is suspected the fire was caused either by an electrical fault or deliberately started by inmates.

The Central American country has one of the world's highest rates of violent crime, and its overcrowded and dilapidated jails have been hit by deadly riots and fires in recent years.
