Hope Fades As Doha Climate Talks Near End

Qatar -- UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon talks during the opening ceremony of the plenary session of the high-level segment of the 18th session of the Conference of Parties of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Doha, 04Dec2012
UN climate talks are due to wrap up in Doha with no sign of significant progress.

Officials from 200 countries have been meeting in Qatar for two weeks to figure out how to deal with the impact of global warming.

Correspondents say disagreements have arisen over who will pay for dealing with the impact of global warming.

At the conference, only a handful of countries, among them Belarus and Ukraine, have committed to new targets on curbing greenhouse-gas emissions.

Many attending the Doha talks said four degrees Celsius of global warming looked almost inevitable and the opportunity to limit the temperature rise to the two degrees scientists say would prevent the worst consequences is all but lost.
