India Calls Off Talks With Pakistan

India has called off talks with Pakistan after accusing Islamabad of interfering in its internal affairs.

India’s Foreign Ministry made the announcement on August 18 after Pakistan's high commissioner to New Delhi announced plans to consult with Kashmiri separatist leaders.

It said the action "raises questions about Pakistan's sincerity.”

Pakistan described the Indian decision as a "setback."

The two countries' foreign secretaries were to meet next week in Islamabad to discuss the resumption of formal dialogue.

India and Pakistan agreed to resume talks on improved relations in May, when Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif attended the inauguration of his Indian counterpart, Narendra Modi.

India has long accused Pakistan of arming and financing the militants in disputed Kashmir, a charge Islamabad denies.
