Officials say more than 70 people have died in a fire that swept through a hospital in the eastern Indian city of Kolkata.
Hospital officials said 73 people were confirmed dead, including 70 patients and three members of the staff.
The fire erupted early this morning in the basement of the multistory hospital building.
It was not immediately clear what started the blaze.
Officials said it appeared hospital staff fled, abandoning patients in their care, when the fire started.
Police said at least 60 people were rescued.
