Security Forces Conduct Counterterrorist Operation In Ingushetia

At least one suspected militant has been killed in a special operation in Russia's North Caucasus region of Ingushetia.

Local police say a group of gunmen opened fire at police officers early on April 8 in the village of Dalakovo.

A counterterrorism operation in the village is continuing.

Ingushetia, along with Russia's other volatile North Caucasus republics such as Kabardino-Balkaria, Daghestan, and Chechnya, continues to experience violence linked to Islamic extremists and organized criminal groups.

Based on reporting by RIA Novosti and Interfax

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
