Earthquake Strikes Iran's Bushehr Region

Iranian media reports say a 5.7 magnitude earthquake on the Persian Gulf coast near Iran's only nuclear power plant at Bushehr has killed seven people and injured 30.

The epicenter of the quake on November 28 was near Borazjan, around 60 kilometers from Bushehr, where Iran has its Russian-built reactor.

Iran stands on several seismic fault lines.

Iran's Arab neighbors across the Persian Gulf have often raised concern over the reliability of the Bushehr plant and the risks of radioactive leaks in case of a major quake.

Based on reporting by AFP and dpa

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
