Iran 'Arrests U.S.-Lebanese Man' In Espionage Probe

A U.S.-Lebanese citizen has reportedly been arrested in Iran on suspicion of espionage.

Citing an unidentified source, state television reported on November 3 that the man, identified as Nezar Zaka, is suspected of having "deep ties to the U.S. intelligence and military establishment."

The report did not give details of when or where the suspect had been arrested.

But the broadcaster aired photographs of what it said was Zaka in military uniform on a U.S. base.

Describing Zaka as an IT expert, Lebanese media reported last week that he had disappeared on September 18 after attending a conference in Tehran.

There have also been reports that Iran has arrested U.S.-Iranian citizen Siamak Namazi, a Dubai-based businessman who disappeared last month while visiting family in Iran. Three other Iranian-Americans are being held in Iran.

Based on reporting by AFP and Reuters

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
