The daughter of Iran's former President Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani has been released from prison after serving a six-month sentence on charges of spreading antistate propaganda.

Her lawyer, Sohrab Soleimani, said Faezeh Hashemi was freed from Tehran's Evin prison on March 19.

She was arrested in late September.

She had been tried and convicted in January when the court also banned her from engaging in political activities for five years.

Hashemi had taken part in protests which erupted after President Mahmud Ahmadinejad's reelection in 2009.

Rafsanjani has been openly critical of Ahmadinejad.

He was president of Iran from 1989 to 1997.
