Iran Marks Revolution Anniversary With Rallies

Iranians attend a rally in Tehran to mark the 34th anniversary of the Islamic revolution on February 10.
Iranians across the country are holding rallies to mark the 34th anniversary of the country's 1979 Islamic revolution.

Demonstrators in Tehran chanted "Down with the U.S." and "Death to Israel."

Iranian President Mahmud Ahmadinejad said in a speech to mark the event that he is prepared to hold talks with the United States if the international community reduces the pressure against Iran over its disputed nuclear program.

"If you pull the gun away from the face of the Iranian nation, I myself will enter talks with you," he said.

His remarks came just three days after Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said there could be no direct talks with Washington as long as sanctions remain in place.

The official IRNA news agency said some 5,000 demonstrations were held across the country on February 10, with hundreds of thousands of people taking part.
