Plane With U.S. Military Lands In Iran After 'Bureaucratic' Issue

A Fly Dubai charter plane flying from Bagram Air Field to Dubai landed in Bandar Abbas, Iran because of a "bureaucratic" issue, the State Department said on Sept. 5.

The State Department said the plane was not "forced down" by the Iranian military and that the issue was resolved.

Hours later the plane departed with its estimated 100 military personnel or contractors on board.

The Washington Post reported that the aircraft was chartered by coalition forces and that Iranian officials questioned the aircraft's flight plan and asked it to return to Afghanistan.

The Post said the pilots said that they did not have enough fuel to land, and therefore were asked to land in Iran.
