Israel says it has detained an Iranian-born Belgian citizen on suspicion of spying for Iran.
Israel's domestic security service, Shin Bet, identified the man as Iranian-born Ali Mansouri. In a statement on September 29, Shin Bet alleged that Mansouri entered Israel under the name Alex Mans.
It said he had been sent by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard's elite Quds Force to set up business ties in Israel as a front for spying.
Shin Bet said Mansouri was caught with photographs he took of the U.S. Embassy in Tel Aviv. It said Mansouri was arrested on September 11 at Tel Aviv's Ben-Gurion Airport.
Mansouri is being held under a court order and is due to appear before a judge on September 30 for a hearing on extending his detention. No formal charges have been announced.
