Kalashnikov Buried In Moscow

Legendary weapons designer Mikhail Kalashnikov, who died on December 23 at the age of 94, has been buried in a military cemetery in the town of Mytishchi near Moscow.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu were among those paying their last respects on December 27 to Kalashnikov, the designer of the AK-47 assault rifle.

Some 60,000 people honored Kalashnikov on December 25 in the capital of Russia's Republic of Udmurtia, Izhevsk, where Kalashnikov had lived and worked for many years.

In a speech at the burial ceremony in Mytishchi, Deputy Defense Minister Arkady Bakhin called Kalashnikov "a symbol of Russia."

Military personnel at the grave site fired different models of AK-47s in tribute.
