India is accusing Pakistan of firing guns and mortars at some 50 border posts along the Line of Control, the border that separates the two countries in the Kashmir area.

Indian Border Security Force spokesman Vinod Yadav said the attacks started late on October 22 in southern Kashmir.

Yadav said Indian troops returned fire.

He said one border guard was killed and six more were wounded by mortar fire at the Arnia post in the Jammu region.

The latest reports follows Pakistani accusations last week of "unprovoked firing" from India on Pakistani forces in which it said one Pakistani soldier was killed.

Despite Indian and Pakistani officials meeting several times this year in an effort to ease tensions, cross-border shelling has continued and even increased in the last two months.

The two rivals have fought two wars over Kashmir.
