The elder daughter of Kazakhstan's president has been appointed deputy speaker of the parliament's lower chamber, the Mazhilis.
The Mazhilis deputies unanimously approved Darigha Nazarbaeva on April 3 after the ruling Nur-Otan party announced her nomination.
Meanwhile, another Nur-Otan member, Qabibolla Zhaqypov, was named Mazhilis speaker after the previous speaker, Nurlan Nigmatullin, was appointed to head the presidential office.
The reshuffles in the government and the parliament were caused by the unexpected resignation of Prime Minister Serik Akhmetov on April 2.
Akhmetov, who was appointed defense minister, was replaced by Karim Masimov the same day.
