ASTANA -- Kazakh border guards have killed one Russian citizen and wounded another during an operation against poachers on the Caspian Sea.
Kazakhstan’s National Security Committee said on November 26 that border guards opened fire to stop eight small boats after they refused to stop for inspection.
Two of the boats were subsequently detained, while six others escaped to Russian territorial waters.
The committee says that two of the seven captured Russian citizens had been released from jail about a month ago after serving prison terms for illegal crossing of the Russian-Kazakh border and poaching on the Kazakhstani side of the Caspian Sea.
