Earthquake Hits Kazakhstan

An earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale has struck eastern Kazakhstan.

There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties from the earthquake,
which struck about 70 northeast of Kazakhstan's financial capital and largest city, Almaty.

Reuters reporters in Almaty felt buildings shake for several seconds.

Much of Almaty was destroyed by an earthquake 100 years ago.
