Kosovo's Airport Temporarily Shut After Airplane Overshoots Runway

Kosovo's main airport was temporarily shut down after a Turkish Airlines flight overshot a runway while landing in rainy weather.

Pristina International Airport spokeswoman Valentina Gara said that the flight on May 2 from Istanbul was carrying 143 passengers and eight crew members.

She said that the plane "had a minor accident that fortunately caused no injuries."

Gara said that "the airport will be shut until the preliminary technical investigation" shows the cause of the incident, without giving details. Three other flights were canceled.

Local media showed a photo in which the plane appeared to have overshot the runway. It was raining at the time of the incident.

"Thanks God we [were] saved from a tragedy," one passenger wrote in a Facebook posting with photos of the aircraft.
