OSH, Kyrgyzstan -- Some 100 local citizens blocked a highway in Kyrgyzstan's southern city of Osh for several hours, demanding that local authorities solve a problem with supplies of natural gas and electricity.
The protesters unblocked the highway after Osh Mayor Aitmamat Kadyrbaev met with the protesters on May 21 and promised that electricity would start being delivered to the city soon.
Kadyrbaev said the government is also working on a resumption of natural-gas deliveries to the region from neighboring Uzbekistan.
Meanwhile, Kyrgyz Prime Minister Joomart Otorbaev said at a parliament session in Bishkek on May 21 that Uzbekistan has been ignoring Kyrgyzstan’s demands to resume deliveries.
Uzbekistan cut natural-gas deliveries to Kyrgyzstan as of April 14 after Bishkek sold its state Kyrgyzgaz natural-gas company to Russia's Gazprom.
