Man 'Shot Dead' Ahead Of Bahrain F1 Grand Prix

Protesters chant slogans after Bahraini police used a stun grenade during an antigovernment rally in Manama on April 19.
A man has reportedly been found dead with gunshot wounds in Bahrain after overnight clashes with police.

An opposition group said the body of Salah Abbas Habib was found in the Shi'ite village of Shakhura, near the capital of Manama.

The authorities opened an investigation in a bid to defuse tensions, a day after tens of thousands of people took part in at times violent protests demanding an end to the crackdown on dissent in the run-up to the April 22 Formula 1 Grand Prix.

Reports said armored vehicles were patrolling the streets of Manama ahead of the race.

Last year's Grand Prix was canceled after more than 30 people died during a crackdown on demonstrations led by Bahrain's majority Shi'a, who demanded that the ruling Sunni royal family improve human rights and make political reforms.
