Moldova has sacked its top army commander Lurie Domenic. On a motion by acting president Marian Lupu, the government approved the commander's removal at a meeting on September 28.

It said the move was aimed at "strengthening military discipline and preventing future violations of regulations."

Domenic's removal came after a soldier accidentally shot and killed a fellow conscript during patrol duty last week.

It also follows the controversial sale of outdated weaponry on a cargo plane that had come from Libya.

Moldova's Defense Minister Marian Lupu said the shipment was flown to Armenia.
