North Korea Announces New Rocket Engine Test

North Korea says it has successfully tested a new rocket engine and will begin preparations for another satellite launch.

The ground test was announced on September 20 by the official Korean Central News Agency.

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un was quoted as ordering officials to complete preparations for a satellite launch as soon as possible.

The United Nations and the West have repeatedly condemned Pyongyang's rocket programs, as well as its nuclear efforts. But repeated sanctions imposed over the years have done little to curtail its programs.

Pyongyang is also working to develop nuclear-armed missiles with ranges that could strike the U.S. mainland.

Earlier this month, North Korea conducted its first nuclear test, its most powerful to date.
