Local officials say an explosion from a roadside bomb in Pakistan's volatile northwest has left at least one soldier dead and several others wounded.

Officials said the blast hit a military convoy in Miran Shah, a main town in the Waziristan tribal region.

The area is a known haven for militant activity.
