Pakistan is accusing Afghanistan of overreacting to an incident along their border that Kabul cited as grounds for canceling a planned visit by an Afghan military team.

Pakistani Foreign Ministry spokesman Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry said on March 28 that the incident started with an intrusion into Pakistani territory from Afghanistan.

On March 27, Afghanistan's Foreign Ministry accused Pakistani forces of shelling areas in Konar Province in eastern Afghanistan on March 25-26.

Chaudhry said there was "no artillery shelling" of Afghanistan and called Pakistan's response to the intrusion "very modest."

An 11-member team of the Afghan National Army was set to take part in military exercises in southwestern Pakistan.

Chaudhry said the cancelation was unfortunate because it was intended to build trust and confidence between the two countries.
